Description
The Steelworks museum features exhibits related to all facets of CF&I and related industries’ impacts on the American West. Examples include the histories of western industrialization, coal and iron mining, steel production, labor issues, western immigration and the Denver & Rio Grande and Colorado and Wyoming railroads. The museum is housed in the former CF&I Medical Dispensary, built in 1901. CF&I was the first integrated steel mill west of the Mississippi River, beginning with the development of the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad in 1872 and the first steel production in 1880.
