Red Rock Canyon is one the newest and best maintained climbing areas to be found anywhere in the US. The park opened in 2004 as a cooperative effort between climbers and the local government trying to create a sustainable climbing area. Climbing is only allowed on the East and West Canyon Walls but this accounts for some seriously great climbing; over 90 bolted routes up to 130 feet high is not too shabby. Almost none of the climbs require any additional aid gear and the views are as quality as the climbs are. All the fixed gear is brand new and well maintained.
The climbs here are a great mix of 5.7 - .12 and the easily navigable approaches are a nice touch. The park also gives a sense of getting away from the city and has great natural beauty. Climbing here really is a pleasure on any of the 13 distinct and different cliffs that are available. Remember to bring red chalk.
