Palisade, Colorado

Travel Information, Tourist Attractions, Activities,...

Welcome to Palisade, a small town that packs a big punch of charm and a food and wine scene that’ll have the foodies coming back for more. We’re nestled along Colorado’s Western Slope in a high desert climate, meaning we have stunning views, mild weather, and lovely Colorado sunshine. We’re proud to produce award-winning wines, grow some of the country’s juiciest peaches, and invite adventure seekers from all over to experience our incredible trails and outdoor thrills.

Palisade grows about 80% of Colorado’s wine grapes and is home to over 30 wineries and tasting rooms, each with its own special take on winemaking; let’s call it a grape- fueled adventure for your taste buds. Whether you’re into reds, whites, or the inventive in-betweens – including honey meads and fruity wines made from local blackberries, peaches, and pears – there’s a flavor for everyone. Many of our wineries are family- owned, offering intimate tours of the vineyards and the winemaking process, live music, food trucks, and other delightful experiences to make each sip a memorable one.

Hiking the Book Cliffs around Palisade is a rewarding experience. Three trails await your adventurous spirit: the thigh-burning Mt. Garfield climb, the moderate Stagecoach Trail, and the scenic Palisade Rim Trail. Mt. Garfield rewards the brave with some of the finest views of the Grand Valley - if you can handle the challenge! The Palisade Rim connects to the legendary Palisade Plunge, an intense 32-mile single-track, downhill mountain bike trail through a variety of terrain from alpine to high desert environments. Experienced riders can take a shuttle to the top and descend 6,000 feet in elevation on a fast, high-energy trail.

If you prefer your adventures at a more leisurely pace, hop on an e-bike rental or horse- drawn carriage to discover the Fruit and Wine Byway. It winds through the vineyards, lavender and alpaca farms, orchards, and overlooks views of the entire valley. Don’t forget to check out downtown Palisade before or after your outdoor or wine tasting adventures! Our charming town center boasts an incredible History Museum, unique boutiques, quaint art galleries, and whimsical downtown sculptures. If you’re lucky enough to visit in the summer, you might stumble upon local events or signature festivals – perfect opportunities to join in the fun and celebrate with us!

When visiting Palisade, we ask that you help us ‘Do Palisade Right’ by leaving fruit on the trees, respect private gates and signs, and stay hydrated! Learn more about how to tour Palisade like a local and embrace responsible tourism.

So, what are you waiting for? Pack your sense of adventure (and a corkscrew) and get ready to fall in love with Palisade – where the wine flows as freely as the Colorado sunshine!
