Description
The Horse Gulch trail complex in Durango offers fun riding for bikers of a variety of ability levels. The trails on the south-side of the Horse Gulch trail complex are very user friendly, with well marked trails and trail maps at all intersections. Over on the north side there are more difficult options with less direction.
The Horse Gulch trails feature great climbs and fast, solid downhills and one trail features a large jump in the middle for downhill enthusiasts. The trails of Horse Gulch meander through a mix of scrub oak forest and desert like fauna, and harbors a healthy rattlesnake population in the summer. Almost all the trails in the Horse Gulch area are loops, so riders can select from multiple loops and add them together to create custom rides and workouts.

The Horse Gulch trail complex is multi-use so riders may encounter hikers, trail runners and other users and should follow right of way protocol when meeting other groups. The Horse Gulch Trail Complex can get very hot during the day in summer months, so it is best to ride in the earlier part of the day. This is an area that rattlesnakes call home. In addition, riders should be prepared with a stocked repair kit and a first aid kit.
