Description
The trail begins at the section house. Walk northeast from this building along the dirt track. The hike's goal is a saddle between Boreas Mountain (south) and Bald Mountain (north). The route follows a stream drainage to its destination at 12,159 feet.
The track cuts through a meadow with stumps from old timber cuts, and then continues along a forested slope to the treeline. 'Me hike can be extended by climbing another 1,000 feet to the 13,082foot Boreas Mountain summit or 13,684-foot Baldy.

Basic Directions
The Black Powder Pass Trail begins as the section house, Boreas Station, located at the summit of Boreas Pass. Boreas Pass Road (Forest Road 33) runs between Como and Breckenridge, and can be accessed from U.S. Highway 285 via County Road 50. The trail begins along the dirt track, Boreas Ditch No. 2, northeast from the section house.
